Glenn’s Quinn spins one-hitter to stop Lancers

WALKERTON — The 14th-ranked (Class 3A) John Glenn High School baseball team rode the arm of Konner Quinn and the bat from just about everyone on its way to a 9-1 non-conference win over Laville at Falcon Field Wednesday.

“That was a good win for us,” said Glenn head coach John Nadolny. “It was a total dominating performance by Quinn.”

The right-hander was on his game right from the start, striking out the first nine batters he faced on his way to a 13K, no walk, onehit gem.

“He was peeling down. He was at the knees, down low the first three innings. I don’t know if they hit one foul ball,” Nadolny said of the sophomore’s command. “Then they started going after him aggressively because he’s throwing strikes, which is fine, because our defense played pretty good. I think they only hit one ball hard.”

It was a pitcher’s duel through three innings as Laville’s Leyton Czarnecki matched Quinn’s goose eggs by allowing just one hit and striking out two the first time through the Glenn lineup, but the Falcon bats busted out for four runs in the fourth followed by another three in the fifth and the final two in the sixth for the final margin.

“They were looking good going into the fourth inning, then it just snowballed for us,” Nadolny added.

The offensive heroes for the home team were plenty. In fact, Glenn’s first six RBIS came from six different players.

“We extended our lineup,” was how Nadolny put it. “We’re not just a middle of the order lineup. Everybody contributed. I’m real happy about that. We strung a bunch of hits together. Batters two through seven smoked the ball pretty well and it broke their back. I’m happy when our lineup hits all the way through.”

The big boppers were Anthony Kaser (2-for3, HR, double), Colin Stephens (2-3, triple), Brycen Hannah (2-3, double, 2 RBIS), and Jake Taylor (2-3), all with a pair of hits and an RBI each. The other RBIS came from Frank Lizzi and Nathan Marshman.

“If you would have thought Anthony Kaser would hit a home run two years ago as a skinny sophomore, you’d be crazy,” Nadolny said about one of the two seniors on the roster. “He still doesn’t have a waist, but he’s a lot stronger now. It’s nice to see, especially after missing last year. He got us going with that double down the line (in the fourth inning). It was a nice day for him. Overall, we had a really nice day offensively.

“It’s still early and we’re still trying to find ourselves. I mixed the lineup up a little and I’ll do that again (today) because we have five games this week before conference starts next week. We have more depth than I’ve ever had. That’s a good thing

to have, but we have a lot of guys that are equal in ability; somebody has to step up.”

Quinn certainly did on the bump. The only blemish was an infield hit by Lucas Plummer in the fourth inning and he hit a

batter in the fifth. Other than that, the Lancer offense was stymied at the plate.

Glenn is scheduled to be back at home today when Marquette pays a visit, while Laville’s next game is at Rochester on Friday.
