Plymouth’s Anders running to IU Kokomo

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth senior runner Nicholas Anders has committed to continue studying and running at IU Kokomo next season.

“It was the right fit for me,” he said of the decision. “It’s not too big but it still allows me to pursue all the things I would on a bigger campus. My brother went there and it was close to home so that I wouldn’t have to give all that up right away.”

“We visited IU Bloomington my junior year and it was just too big. I also get the opportunity to run cross country and track for a great program.”

Anders found his sport of choice early on.

“I just love to compete with people in anything,” he said. “I played a lot of sports but I found out my hand-eye coordination wasn’t my strength so I started running in the fifth and sixth grade. I love it. It isn’t easy sometimes. Sometimes it’s really tough but I love it.”

“I like the fact that a lot of times my teammates are right there running with me, my coaches right there telling me what to do,” he said. “It makes it a lot of fun.”

A distance runner for Plymouth’s cross country and track programs, Anders plans to continue both at IU Kokomo but knows it will be a challenge.

“They say you are guaranteed a spot on the team but you aren’t guaranteed to run in a race,” he said. “I want to take the time to get my times down enough to be running in races.”

Nicholas is the son of Curt and Kathy Anders. He has a 3.5 GPA and is ranked 75th in his class.

Nicholas plans to run cross country and track with plans to study busi

ness management.

“I’ve been looking at some Fortune 500 companies and hopefully I’d like to start out in sales for a few years and then work my way up the ladder, eventually into management,” he said.

IU Kokomo is known as the Cougars and competes in NAIA and is a member of the River States Conference. Some of the schools in their conference include Asbury University, Ohio Christian University, and the University of Rio Grande.

As he moves on to the next stage of life Nicholas knows how he wants to be remembered by his teachers and classmates.

“I think I’d like people to say that I was kind and helpful to everyone,” he said. “I hope that people remember me as somebody that was fun to be around.”
