The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety (BPWS) opened four quotes for the demolition of 412 W. Garro Street.

The first quote was from Chain of Lakes, Plymouth, with a bid of $15,000. The second quote was from Langfeldt Excavating LLC, Plymouth, with a bid of $10,600. The third quote was from Beaver Excavating LLC, Plymouth, with a bid of $11,750. The last quote was from Jackson Demolition Services Enterprise LLC, Rochester, with a bid of $12,500.

a motion was made to have the quotes will be taken under advisement by Building Commissioner Keith Hammonds and then award the project to the lowest responsible contractor. The motion was passed unanimously.

In other board news, Police Chief David Bacon requested permission to start the process to receive quotes for two police utility vehicles. The chief stated that the vehicles were in the budget for this year. That request was approved.

Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt brought a few requests to the board from various groups. The Cars and Coffee group sought approval to close off approximately one block of Beerenbrook Street on both the north and south sides of

Jefferson Street. The request is from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. on May 1, June 5, July 3, Aug. 7, and Sept. 4.

The second request was from George Schricker and the Wild Rose Moon. The request would allow the sidewalk in front of Wild Rose Moon for a live concert featuring musicians from Wild Rose Moon. There will be room roped off so that pedestrians will still be able to walk past. It would be requested for April 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Some folding chairs would be placed on the sidewalk six feet apart.

Heartland Artist Gallery ARTS in the Street requested to close Michigan Street from Laporte Street to Washington Street for the annual ARTS in the Street Festival. The festival would be held on Saturday, July 31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. They requested to close that portion of the street from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All three event requests were approved unanimously by the board.

The last request to place a handicap sign at 249 Webster Avenue was denied by the board. Marquardt stated that the request came from the resident at that location. The resident cited health issues and difficulty finding consistent available parking in front of her home.

“If we would put a handicap sign out, then we have to make the spot totally handicap legal,” stated Marquardt. “That would entail either making the spot wider in the street so people could exit the passenger side of the vehicle if needed, or re-pore some concrete in the terrace and then what elevation issues are there or not. So, actually to put a handicap spot we’d have to do a lot ourselves to make it legal.”

The motion to deny the request was unanimous.
