Laville softball earns recognition
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Laville High School softball team received national recognition for its work in the classroom... again. This is the second straight year that Laville softball has earned national recognition for its work in the classroom. Though the Easton/nfca All-scholar selection process did not take place during the 2020 season due to COVID, Laville achieved its first recognition in 2019.
In the spring, the Lancers placed 10 players on the Easton/nfca All-scholar North Region List.
In 2021, Quincy Blodgett, Sydney Coblentz, Abigail Goffinet, Caitlyn Goffinet, Louise Grevost, Chloe Herbster, Heaylyn Kwiatkowski, Karisma Lewis, Allison Medors, and Lily Smith were each selected to the North Region list.
The NFCA has released its list of All-scholar High School teams on two scales - unweighted and weighted. Laville earned recognition in the Top 50 nationally on the unweighted GPA list. In 2019, Laville was #45 and was one of two Indiana schools selected to the unweighted GPA list. Now, in 2021 Laville is #38 on the Top 50 list of weighted grading scale.
The NFCA recognizes student-athletes who achieve a 3.5 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale as NFCA Scholar Athletes. The NFCA recognizes the top 10 academic teams (by overall GPA) each fall through the Easton/nfca Top 10 Academic Team program.
Indiana is part of a 9-state region that includes Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
The NFCA recognizes five regions nationally – East, North, South, South Central, and West.
Established in 1983, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) is the professional growth organization for fastpitch softball coaches from all competitive levels of play. Although collegiate coaches comprised the majority of the organization’s membership in the early days, today they are joined by high school, travel ball, professional and international coaches, along with umpires, clubs, companies and fans of fastpitch softball. Growing from 40 members in 1983 to over 5,500 today, the NFCA boasts members from all 50 states and several international countries.
There are many services offered to the membership, highlighted by education, events, awards and networking opportunities. All-america teams, scholar-athlete accolades, coaching achievements, off-the-field contributions and scholarships make up the awards program.
In addition to all of the above, education remains the top priority. Featuring a grassroots Coaching Tools package compiled of practice plans, drills and evaluation forms, the NFCA also disseminates podcasts, forums, a Digital Education Library, Virtual Coaches Clinics, webinars, a mentoring program, publications, a Drills Database, legal counsel and accurate and credible information surrounding the sport.
Among the list of weighted GPA schools, Laville is the lone school to be selected from Indiana.
