Trojans aim for opportunities

- By Rusty Nixon Sports Editor

BOURBON - A unique game in a number of ways still came out with Triton taking a tough loss on the road at Knox a week ago.

Both teams had only one score in the second half and Knox did not attempt a single pass, but put up over 400 yards of offense.

“They played inspired football on Friday night and their offensive line did a number on us,” said Triton coach Rodney Younis. “We struggled matching them. They took advantage of that and you get the result you get. We had some bright spots. I thought our offense played a pretty good game overall. Defensively, we just couldn’t stop them.”

The Trojans have had a chance to analyze what they need to clean up.

“It’s a combination of things,” said Younis. “We’ve dealt with some injuries this year and it just sort of piles up. We’ve had to play some kids this year that maybe aren’t ready physically yet and we have to be ‘next man up’.”

This week there is some help on the way, although how much will likely be limited.

“We are fortunate that we get Cam Shively back this week,” said Younis. “We aren’t sure how much we will be able to use him, but he is cleared to go after having surgery which gives us a big boost. He’s our best lineman on both sides of the ball.”

The Trojans will need all the weapons they can muster as they will have to take on top 10 and undefeated Winamac on the road.

“They are well-coached,” said Younis. “They have the pieces this year. I think on their roster they have 23 seniors and that’s unheard of in 1A football. They play sound fundamentally. They aren’t going to beat themselves. It’s important that we play sound fundamentally and not give up big plays. Offensively, when we have our opportunity to score we must put points on the board.”
