Dr. Noemi Adame Gamel offers free parenting class

Dr. Noemi adame Gamel of Culver Pediatrics Center, with the support of the Culver Parks Department, is offering a free Marshall County Parenting Support Group.

The public is invited to join an inclusive group of parents, grandparents, and caregivers at any and all stage of parenting.

Dr. Gamel said she could not have succeeded at parenting without the support of her own family, immediate and extended. “as a pediatrician and mother of two of a teenager and young adult, I understand the challenges of parenting at all its beautiful and chaotic stages. I was fortunate that as part of a large family of Mexican immigrants, I had a built-in support system with my parents and sisters. We could not have gotten through the intensive periods of parenting without them. It really does take a village!”

She added that parenting without support for those who don’t have that support system built within their own family unit can be isolating. “I also see first-hand how isolating parenting can be. Most parents do not have access to the support they need, especially now that we have become more and more isolated during the pandemic. To help combat that isolation, together with two local mothers, Culver Pediatrics Center is hosting the first Marshall County Parenting Support Group as a space where families can learn from each other and share their experience with others.”

The public is invited to share about their parenthood journey; past, present and future, as a means of supporting one another as everyone’s experiences and support systems are unique. “Sometimes just hearing someone’s story that is similar to what they are going through is enough to reassure a family that they will be okay.”

The group is not Culver exclusive, but is open to all families in the Marshall County area. The first session

will be held Friday, Oct. 22 at 3 p.m. at the Culver Beach Lodge. “We welcome all families in the Marshall County area to join the parenting support group. “

Masks will be required to attend the event. Other infection control precautions will be in place.

Children are welcome. Parents will be required to watch over their own children. Those who are preparing for parenthood are also welcome to attend.
