Academy advances two to state XC
Four semi-state races were held Saturday across the state as part of the IHSAA cross country state tournament.
Cross country
The top six teams and top 10 individuals from non-advancing teams qualified for the state finals Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute. Locally, that meant two Culver academy runners will get to race in the final high school run of the fall season.
New Prairie semi-state
At the New Prairie semistate race, 20 teams competed in both the boys and girls races.
In the boys race, there were 179 total runners. Culver academy’s team finished 13th and Plymouth 15th. Individually, Cma’s Sam Tullis qualified for the state meet as the fourth-best time not from an advancing team (16:25) and was sixth overall. Plymouth’s top finisher was Trey Hall (35th overall, 16:58).
In the girls race, there were 176 total runners. Culver Girls academy placed 10th, but Celeste Gram’s 14th place finish (19:40) was the sixth-best not from an advancing team so the sophomore moves on to the state meet. Plymouth’s Sophie Wray was 33rd overall (20:12) and Triton’s Jocelyn Faulkner was 68th (21:02).
New Haven semi-state
At the New Haven semistate run at Huntington University, there were 178 runners in the boys race and another 176 for the girls. Bremen’s aaron Douglass was 133rd overall with a time of 18:15. In the girls race,
Bremen’s Hallie Klockow was 100th (21:45), Laville’s Jamie Havera 110th (21:58) and Glenn’s Katelynn Braun 114th (22:02).
The boys state finals race will start at noon Saturday, followed by the awards ceremony. The girls race will start at 3 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony. The state final races will be available via pay-per-view for $14.95 at Ihsaatv.org.
