Lady Lions will lean on seniors

- By Ron Haramia SPORTS WRITER

BREMEN — Last year was a streaky one for the Bremen High School girls basketball team. The Lady Lions had two four-game winning strings, but also a pair of three-game losing skids that helps explain a season that ended just above the .500 mark at 12-10.

This year’s squad has a lot of experience back though, giving head coach Alex Robinson plenty of optimism as the start of a new season approaches.

“We return an experienced group that should build on the ‘20-’21 season,” said Robinson, who will be assisted again by Marty Andrews and Taylor Lizzi. “We feel like we have a well-rounded roster with solid depth, led by five seniors.”

Leading the way are those returning upperclassmen Ellia Foster, Emma Graverson, Zoey France, Maddy Youngman and Jaiden Monhaut. Other returning letterwinners include junior Katie Moyer and sophomore Mikayla Shively. Chloe Miller is another sophomore returnee, but a knee injury over the summer could keep her out all season. Newcomers to watch are sophomore Zeta Nunemaker and freshman Kila Foster.

“Ellia Foster and Katie Moyer will lead the attack, with a dynamic group around them,” added Robinson. “We would love to compete for a Bi-county championship, as well as in the sectional, and we would like to finish in the top half of the Northern Indiana Conference.”

Bremen jumps right into conference play with its season opener on the road Nov. 2 at Mishawaka Marian, who is led by Division I prospect Nevaeh Foster and fellow junior standout Makaya Porter. The Lady Lions added Plymouth to their non-conference schedule this year and face the Lady Pilgrims, at The Rock, on Nov. 16. One scheduling quirk has an 18-day break between games after the Dec. 16 NIC contest at Penn.
