WALKERTON — Starting this week, a new food campaign will be brought to Walkerton Elementary School (WES).

“We are going to bring the first annual Stuff the Bus food campaign to Walkerton Elementary,” WES Principal Patrick Fuller informed the John Glenn School Corporation Board at their meeting on Tuesday.

He went on to explain that they will be collecting non-perishable food items. all of the food items will be donated to the Walkerton food pantry. Throughout this upcoming week, students will collect food items. Each class will compete against the other classes. The winning class that collects the most will be named the Stuff the Bus Champion.

“They get exclusive 2021 Stuff the Bus t-shirts. They get to have a pizza party with myself and Mr. Stauffer,” Fuller said.

at the end of the week a school bus will be parked at the front of the building and the winning class will take all of the food and stuff the bus. Then they’ll drive it over to the Walkerton food pantry.

“Very excited to bring that to our community. It’s something that I’ve done previously as a principal before. It’s a wonderful, wonderful organization, a wonderful campaign to bring back to us locally too,” Fuller said.

Fuller also took a moment to thank the WES PTA for their efforts over the last couple of weeks. according to the principal, the PTA has brought in different recess equipment for extra recesses for winning classes. They have provided pizza for the after-school art club. “If you didn’t get a chance to see it, they did an amazing job with the haunted trail last Saturday for Halloween. So many people loved it. Brought in over $600 for Walkerton Food Pantry, that trail did, ” said Fuller.
