‘Mooky’ Project hosts Silent Auction for Riley’s Kids

- By Jamie Felury STAFF WRITER

PLYMOUTH — Pebbles Wireman, founder of The Mooky Project, has partnered with Premier Rental to bring toys to children who will be spending their holidays at Riley’s Hospital for Children this Christmas.

Her usual shipment of “Mooky” sock monkeys has been delayed and will not reach Indiana in time for distribution.

Premier Rental has donated the use their space at 2263 North Oak Road in Plymouth and a 60 inch television for a silent auction on from December 1 through December 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to raise money to purchase toys locally to bring kids comfort this Christmas.

Donations are down for many organizations, Riley’s included. Donations of items for the silent auction are being accepted. Contact Wireman at 574-220-7389.

Individuals are also asked to support Riley’s kids through bidding on auction items in December.

Wireman was in two accidents, one in 1991 and the second in 1995. Her recovery included hospital stays and multiple surgeries.

During this time she had been given a sock monkey as a gift from her caregiver. She named the monkey “Mooky” and was allowed to bring it with her into surgeries for comfort.

Nurses embellished “Mooky” with bandages and memoirs of her procedures and surgeries throughout her journey, now a treasured

memoir.

From her experience she was inspired to provide that same comfort to children. “Mooky can go with them when their parents can’t.”

Wireman has earned an Associates Degree, Bachelors Degree, and Masters Degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. She has recently been accepted into a Doctorate Program.

Established in 2018, The Mooky Project has provided over 2,000 sock monkeys to children with Riley’s kids being the main focus.

Riley’s children will be taking care of approximately 300 children this Christmas. Instead of being at home, they will be in hospital beds. Some of those children will be “fighting for their lives”.

Wireman, along with Premier Rental, is

asking the community to partner with them to make their holidays a little brighter with the soft comfort a plush gift. 100% of the profit from this event will go to Riley’s Children’s Hospital.
