Harley E. Schafer

Harley E. Schafer, 82 years old, passed away at 7:18 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Hospice House in Mishawaka.

Harley was born on Jan. 23, 1939 in Lakeville to the late Glen “Pete” and Lois (Donathen) Schafer. He has remained a lifelong resident of Lakeville. A former farmer, Harley retired from Master Distributo­rs as a truck driver. He also formerly worked at Wheelabrat­or Corporatio­n. Harley formerly attended Pine Creek Church of the Brethren. He was a volunteer with the Lakeville Fire Department for 25 years and a former member of the Jaycees in Lakeville.

Harley is survived by his three children, Beth (Dale) Stoltzfus of Mount Joy, PA, Kevin (Laura) Schafer of Lakeville, and Kent (fiancé, Karen) Schafer of Salt Lake City, Utah; eight grandchil-dren, Dustin (Angela) Schafer, Joshua (Tracey) Schafer, Tori (Ian) Bennett, Alek Schafer, Adam Schafer, Jenna Stoltzfus, Trevor Stoltzfus, and Justin Stoltzfus; and six great grandchild­ren. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Ruth Schafer, of Salt Lake City, UT; sister, Patty (Calvin) Ewing of Lakeville; brother, Larry (Phyllis) Schafer of Florida; and sister-in-law, Joyce Schafer of South Bend.

Along with his parents, Harley was preceded in death by his grandson, Jeremy Kent Stoltzfus, and by his brother, Roger Schafer.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29, at the Palmer Funeral Home, within the Palmer Community Complex, 601 N. Michigan Street, Lakeville. Friends may visit with the family from 5-7 p.m. on Monday. A private burial will take place in Fair Cemetery, North Liberty.
