College athletes wrap up seasons

Here is the latest follow-up on area athletes who are continuing to compete at the college level. This list is by no means all-inclusive. Some athletes are not in their seasons and for others, we at the Pilot News are just not aware of where they are and what sport they are playing. Blake Reed (Plymouth Hs) is a junior on the Wabash College track team. He was named Athlete of the Week during the indoor season just before Christmas. He was part of the first-place 4x200 relay team at the Hreha Indoor Track & Field Invitation­al held at Depauw University on Feb. 5. The team placed first out of the eight schools there. Reed won a pair of individual titles for the Little Giants at the University of Indianapol­is Indoor Track & Field Classic Jan. 22. He won the 60m with a time of 7.25 seconds and the 200m in 23.67. The team has an outdoor meet scheduled for today at Marian University in Indianapol­is.

Erin Coffel (Bremen Hs) is a sophomore shortstop for the University of Kentucky softball team. After 30 games (22-8, 27 starts, 30 games played), Coffel is batting .429 with a team-leading 8 HRS, 4 2Bs, and a team-leading 33 RBIS. She is also 4-for-5 in stolen bases. According to Softball America, she was the No. 10 player in the country for the month of March. The Wildcats are playing a three-game series at No. 20 LSU this weekend. Hs) was named third team All-american by the National Christian College Athletics Associatio­n (NCCAA) and a first-team selection to the NCCAA All-region team. She averaged a double-double for the Grace College women’s basketball team, with 14.3 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. She also shattered the program’s single-season double-double record with 22 for the year. Grace made the Crossroads League semifinals and qualified for the NCCAA national championsh­ips for the seventh consecutiv­e season. The Lady Lancers also tied the single-season record for wins, reaching the 20-win mark for the third time in program history.

trey Galloway (Culver academy) just finished his sophomore year for the Indiana University men’s basketball team. He appeared in 20 games and averaged 5.5 ppg and 1.7 rpg in 21 minutes per outing. He shot 46% from the field, 21% on three-pointers and 65% from the free throw line. His highest scoring game was 13 points against Northweste­rn and logged 37 minutes in that contest. The Hoosiers finished 21-14, 9-11 in the Big 10.

anthony Goeb (Culver academy) just completed his sophomore year on the Dickinson College men’s basketball team. He was the Centennial Conference Athlete of the Week (Feb. 10) when he averaged 18.3 points, 3.3 three-pointers, and 2.7 rebounds per game. For the season, he played all 24 games with 16 starts. He averaged 8.8 ppg in 24.8 minutes per contest. He shot 34% from the field, 31.6% on three-pointers and 81% from the foul line. The Red Devils finished 11-13 overall and 10-8 in the Centennial Conference.
