It’s official, Handley era in Plymouth football begins

-

PLYMOUTH — At tlast night’s board meeting, PCSC approved the hiring of Plymouth High School’s next Head Football Coach. Adam Handley will become the next leader of the Plymouth Rockies.

Coach Handley is a 2009 graduate of Lockport High School in Lockport, Ill. While in high school, he excelled in both football and basketball. After High School, he continued his football playing career at Taylor University.

Handley played wide receiver for the Trojans for four years and graduated in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in education (physical education and health).

Handley’s first stop in his career was at Marion High School as the weight room coordinator, assistant football coach (four years), assistant basketball coach (three years) and assistant baseball coach (one year).

Handley was on the coaching staff with the Giants when they won the 2016 3A State Championship in basketball.

From Marion, Handley returned to coach at Taylor University and was employed as a PE and health teacher at Eastbrook High School. In the fall, he served as an assistant football coach (tight ends) for Taylor University. In the winter, Handley was Eastbrook’s JV basketball coach.

In 2018, Handley landed his first head coaching opportunity at Wabash High School taking on the challenge of a football program that had experienced very limited success over years.

Prior to Coach Handley’s arrival, the Apaches only had one winning football season in 20 years and accumulated a total of 25 wins during that period.

During his tenure, the Apaches tripled their average win total per season and they posted the school’s second winning season since 2000.

Handley comes to Plymouth with his wife Tanyele, daughter Sharee, and newborn son Xaine.

“In interviewing Adam and talking to his references, it was clear that he is passionate about helping his players be great on and off the field,” said Plymouth Athletic Director Michael Delp. “There was clear evidence that teaching and coaching football is his conduit for positively impacting young people.

We are thrilled to have Adam and his family join the Plymouth Community.”

The challenges will start early for Coach Handley as the Rockies will begin the 2022 season with 3 consecutive road games — at East Noble, Kokomo, and Warsaw.

The home opener for the Rockies will be Sept. 9, against the Wawasee Warriors.
