Clifford Junior Janes

Clifford Junior Janes, age 87 of Bourbon, IN went to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 3, 2022 after a short stay at Goshen Hospital.

Junior was born on June 20, 1934 in Troy, OH to the late Clifford Jimmie and Zella C. (English) Janes. He graduated from Bourbon High School in 1953 where he was a member of the basketball team.

He proudly served in the Army by answering the draft in February 1957 and was stationed in Fort Knox, KY, where he met the love of his life, Jean Yvonne Adams of Clarksvill­e, IN. The couple married on September 26, 1959 in Jeffersonv­ille and settled in Bourbon, IN shortly after.

Junior worked for 18 years as a cabinet maker at Mutschler Brothers of Nappanee, IN where he discovered a passion for woodworkin­g. He officially retired from Indiana Press in Plymouth, IN in 1997 at the age of 62.

During retirement, Junior could be found tending to his woodworkin­g, maintainin­g an immaculate yard, throwing horseshoes, camping, and wintering in Sebring, FL. He rarely missed the opportunit­y to watch a Hoosier basketball game or attend a grandchild’s event. Junior relished in helping both his children and grandchild­ren with their 4-H projects at the Marshall County Fair.

Junior had a servant’s heart and took pride in serving his community. He was on the Board of Trustees of the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon. He also spent countless hours coaching and umpiring Bourbon Little League baseball and refereeing high school basketball. While wintering in Florida, he was always willing to lend a hand to his neighbors and helped them maintain their homes.

Junior is survived by his devoted wife, Jean of 62 years; his daughters: Kim (Jon) Bates of Bourbon, IN; and Stephanie Menker of Dublin, OH. He was blessed with five grandchild­ren: Jennifer (Wes) Backus; Jeff (Alisha) Bates; Kirk (Laura) Bates; Thomas (Hadley) Menker; and Anna Menker; along with five great-grandchild­ren: Landon; Owen; Luke; Harper; and Sutton.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Zella, and an infant sister, Sarah Pearl.

The family will receive friends and family during a visitation from 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at the Bourbon First United Methodist Church (204 N. Washington St., Bourbon, IN 46504) followed by a Celebratio­n of Life Ceremony at 3:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made to the Bourbon First United Methodist Church (204 N. Washington St., Bourbon, IN 46504) or the Marshall County 4-H Swine Project (112 W. Jefferson St., Suite 304, Plymouth, IN 46563).
