Culver Academy names March Athletes of the Month
CULVER — Culver Boys and Girls Academy have named their respective athletes of the Month for March. Both are track and field athletes.
For the girls Lena Spiller has kicked off the track and field season by winning both the high and long jump events at the Culver Academies Indoor Invitational, with her high jump performance setting a new CGA school record of 5’5”. Following that performance, she led off the 4x200 relay team at the Hoosier State Relays along with teammates Maddy Rivera, Alexa Labella, and Cecille Figueroa, setting a new CGA school record of 1:49.97. Capping off the indoor season on March 15th, she won both the high and long jump events, and helped set a new school and fieldhouse record in the 12-lap relay along with Maddy Rivera, Brighton Bird, and Cecille Figueroa.
“Lena has begun to work more at understanding her events and focus on improving specific movements, becoming more of a student of her events,” said head coach Mike Chastain. “She is working hard and focused at becoming her best, and I’m confident there is much more to come this season,” he added.
For the boys George Bourdier is the choice having established himself as one of the top pole vaulters and fastest sprinters in the state during the indoor season, breaking CMA’S indoor 60m and 200m dash school records, the indoor fieldhouse record for the 200, as well as the indoor school record for pole vault of 14’6”, a record he previously set during the 2021 season. The Washington University—st. Louis commit is currently Indiana’s third-ranked pole vaulter.
“As co-captain of the CMA track and field team, George has shown exceptional focus, enthusiasm, and dedication to his sport while maintaining the responsibilities of Battery A’s unit commander,” said head coach Scott Johnson. “We look forward to seeing his ongoing improvement.”
