LMS robotics team to hold a fundraising demo as they prepare for World Competition
PLYMOUTH—THE Lincoln Middle School 8th grade robotics team is eagerly looking forward to going to the world competition in Dallas, TX May 3-5. To help raise the $7,000 needed to get the team to Dallas, they will be hosting a showcase, which will be held on april 13 at 6:30 in the LJHS gym, through door 12. attendees are asked to give a free will donation and community members will be given the opportunity to drive a robot at the end of the event.
Plymouth Public Schools Head Coach, Michael Wraight is thrilled with the students’ accomplishments. “This represents the majority of their work. This is their design, their ideas. They put that whole thing together without any involvement from an adult. We’re here to answer questions and to make sure everything is safe. There’s a lot of pride that they accomplished that all on their own,” he said.
The LJHS team will be competing in the [REC Foundation VRC Middle School Division, where they have to ally with other schools, then go head-to-head against other teams in a timed match. In order to win, the robots have to collect goals and rings for points. “You basically train it to go out there and find one of those yellow goals, pick it up, and bring it back,” explained Wraight.
Donations for the robotics team, either for the trip next month or for future club expenses, can be sent to Lincoln Middle School with ‘Robotics Team’ in the memo line. Cash or check is accepted. For more information, email aoliver@plymouth.k12.in.us or mwraight@plymouth.k12.in.us.
