Plymouth makes it three straight with win over Concord

- By Rusty Nixon

PLYMOUTH — It was a day for celebration for Plymouth’s Lady Pilgrims as they won their third straight over NLC foe Concord by a 52-38 final.

The headline is that after the game head coach Micaela Schalliol headed to the hospital where doctors induced labor for she and husband Hunter’s first child.

The subhead is the inspired play of her team over the past 10 days. The big reason is simple.

“Defense,” said Schalliol. “That’s the way that our past three games have been. When good things happen it’s starting on the defense.”

Trailing at halftime the Lady Pilgrims came out and made a statement dominating the quarter and then pulling away in the fourth.

“We told our girls at halftime what we were doing in the 1st half was working they were just knocking down some shots and and we weren’t,” said Schalliol.”

“We started to in the second half,” she said. “We got wide open looks, got our transition game going.”

“We rebounded the ball a lot better in the second half which is absolutely necessary.”

The halftime talk worked as the Lady Pilgrims took control after the break.

“You have to make a statement in the first three minutes,” said Schalliol. “They hung around but our girls were on top pretty much in that secon half.”

Three players in double figures in the scoring column was also a reason for celebration. Taylor Delp, Sophie Miller and Claire Mcdonald added a spark to the offense.

“They’re not thinking they’re just playing which is exactly what you wish your ball team would. Obviously they’re going think at the beginning of the year but we need to be jelling at the end. We’re getting more reps more game reps from different individuals so they’re ready for postseason.”

Rylee Mann had six steals to lead the defense, Ellie Jones dished out five assists.

Plymouth is 7-11 and will take on Winamac at home on Tuesday.
