Levi Wayne Kemp, 96, of Walkerton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Memorial Hospital from an extended illness.

Levi was born on Aug. 26, 1926 in Walkerton, Indiana to the late Louis and Olga (Pipke) Kemp. On May 1, 1948 he married June (Sheaks) Kemp, who precedes him in death. Levi is survived by his two daughters, Teresa L. Kemp of Walkerton, and Sandra J. (Craig) Sarber of Walkerton and one son, Wendell W. (Marianne) Kemp of Walkerton. He is also survived by seven loving grandchild­ren, Zebulen (Lisa) Kemp, Jeanine (Cory) Smith, Clinton (Samantha) Kemp, Vanessa (Joe) Spychalski, Hillary (Justin) Horvath, Cahill (Kamryn) Sarber, Cole Sarber and 14 great-grandchild­ren. Levi is survived by a sister, Alta Kisselburs­h of San Diego, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two sisters, Leola Henderson and Stella Vanderwend­e.

Levi was a lifelong resident to the area. He proudly served in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 189 in Walkerton. Levi loved working with wood and was a Carpenter with the Carpenters Union Local #413. He enjoyed target shooting in his spare time. Levi was happiest when he was surrounded by his grandchild­ren and family.

Friends may gather for visitation on Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Walkerton Chapel”, 1216 Roosevelt Road, Walkerton, IN 46574. There will be a funeral service on Friday, May 12, 2023, at 11 a.m. in the Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Walkerton Chapel” with Denny Soule officiatin­g. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Walkerton, with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons can be made in honor of Levi’s life to Giving Hearts Corner Cup Café, 600 Roosevelt Road, Walkerton, IN 46574.
