LV antsy to hit the field

LAKEVILLE Laville’s baseball team has a lot of experience back in the fold for the 2024 season and head coach Brian Lawler is looking forward to the start of game action.

“this is a good group and we are ready to get started,” said Lawler, who is assisted by Scott Wieczorek and Bob Harvey. “We are returning a lot of key pieces from last year. We feel like we have an experienced team who is working hard and ready to start playing.”

Returning letter winners include four-year varsity member senior Lucas Plummer (INF/P), juniors Collin Czarnecki (INF/P), Sean Kubsch (1B), Karson Quinn (C) and Andrew Wolford (OF/P), plus sophomores Joey Drinkwine (2B), Riley Filley (OF), Braedyn Foster (OF/1B), Andre Gonzales (OF/P), Brayden Schwitz (INF/P) and Caleb Howard (C/1B).

“We are bringing back a lot of innings (pitched) with Plummer, Wolford, Czarnecki and will need Schwitz and Gonzales to help on the mound as well,” added Lawler.

The Lancers were originally scheduled to play their first game thursday, but that was canceled so the opener will be at Argos Friday. First pitch is 5 p.m. After that it is five home games out of the next six for LV, including dates with area heavyweights Glenn (Apr. 5), Bremen (Apr. 9) and at Plymouth (Apr. 11).

The first Hoosier North Athletic Conference contests will be with Culver April 15-16.

“The HNAC will be another tough run as we prepare for the last season in this conference,” said Lawler, whose Lancers will join the newly formed Indiana Northern State Conference (INSC) in all sports beginning next school year. “It is always a challenge and we really like playing teams back-to-back with a home and away game.”

Once the games begin, it is a busy lineup for LV as four weeks have four games scheduled. that can always change due to the weather, but as is will certainly tax any pitching staff.

the Lancers are again part of Sectional 36 in Class 2A, hosted by Wabash HS. the rest of the six-team field contains Bremen, Rochester, Manchester and Pioneer. Bremen defeated LV in the semifinals last year on the way to the sectional title.
