PHS handed 2nd straight loss, NLC game today

LAPORTE — If there is a “script” as the conspiracy theory goes, Plymouth’s Pilgrims would like to have theirs re-written.

Once again it was some familiar themes recurring as the Pilgrims dropped a game at Laporte on Saturday, 11-3.

“We just have to get out of our own way,” said Plymouth head coach Ryan Wolfe. “Ten errors in two games, we are in our way so many times. I’m okay with errors here and there. We are going to strike out, that’s baseball. We’re giving up too many free bases. It’s a broken record at this point.”

Once again Plymouth pitchers spotted a team a big first inning. This time Nick Manzuk was touched for four first-inning runs and once again he righted the ship for the next two innings while his team chipped away at the lead.

Plymouth was able to grab two back in the third on a Caleb Bowling sacrifice fly and a Parker Wolfe RBI single. Laporte would respond with a five-run fourth. They added two insurance runs in the sixth off reliever Aiden Landis.

“We can hit the ball with any team,” said Wolfe. “Really

I thought our pitchers today did well. We left an 0-2 pitch over the plate with the bases loaded after we got back to 4-2 and it was a bases-clearing double that really about put it out of reach.”

Plymouth would get another in the fifth but couldn’t get any closer.

“I challenged them,” said Wolfe. “There has to be some leadership out here too. We have to figure it out. We’ve shown sparks of being a really good baseball team and we are a really good baseball team. We need to put it all together. We just have to figure out a way to put some things together and hold each other accountable.”

Plymouth (4-5) has lost two straight now with a home conference game on Monday with Goshen. Laporte moves to 7-5 on the year.

“We are 10 games in right now,” said Wolfe. “We aren’t where we want to be but the last 18 games of the season let’s figure it out.”
