Melinda “Mindy” Ann (Smith) McAfee, 51, of the Fordham area, Punxsutawn­ey, passed away following a brief illness at Penn Highlands DuBois on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

She was born in Punxsutawn­ey on June 23, 1970, a daughter of the late Terry Gene Smith and Marian Louise (Troutman) Smith. Her mother survives and resides in Punxsutawn­ey.

Mindy was a 1988 graduate of Punxsutawn­ey Area High School.

She was a fashion consultant for LuLaRoe and was also an Avon representa­tive.

On Sept. 1, 2012, she married Carey Wayne McAfee. He survives and resides in Fordham. They loved to vacation together each year; in the past, they had the opportunit­y to enjoy Jamaica and Punta Cana.

Mindy was a very wonderful, loving, caring and giving woman. Watching her three grandchild­ren was near and dear to her heart; she loved all of them more than words can describe. She loved the annual family beach vacations to Ocean City each year. She was a selfless volunteer for the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Company, and she also served as treasurer.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by one son, Derek Matthew Means and wife Kayla of Punxsutawn­ey; three grandchild­ren she adored, Harper, Gannon and Bennett; two sisters,

Teresa Keth and fiancé Jon Tubbs of Punxsutawn­ey and Sherry Buffington of Punxsutawn­ey; nieces and nephews Emily, Kyle, Neveah, Richard and Alex; her mother in-law, June McAfee; and her beloved dog, Gizzy.

She was preceded in death by her father, Terry, and her father in-law Billy McAfee.

Friends will be received from noon until 6 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2022, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawn­ey. A celebratio­n of Mindy’s life will be held at 6 p.m. at the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Company.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, officiated by Joe Buterbaugh.

Interment will be private for the family at Valier Cemetery.
