PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney 8-10 Baseball All-Stars played host to visiting Ridgway on Monday evening, where the home team went on to win 10-0 in five innings.
A strong approach on the mound and some wellplaced hits secured the win for Punxsy in their first game of the tournament.
Punxsy’s Jace Kerr had three strikeouts in the first inning to open the game, and during the home team’s first at-bat, they put in three runs to lead 3-0.
With two outs and two runners on base, Gavin Miller had a chopper of a hit that landed him on third before he eventually found himself home on an overthrown ball. Miller also brought home Greyson Kendra and Paul Zimmerman for two RBIs.
In the second inning, Punxsy pushed the lead ahead even more to 7-0 at the end of the inning.
Jennings Stamler hit double to score two runners to make it 5-0 before Stamler and Kerr stole home to push it to 7-0.
The fourth inning saw Punxsy’s Jackson Matley single to score a run to push it to 8-0, and right after that, Blake Hughes also hit a single to bring home a runner to put things at 9-0.
In the fifth inning, Stamler had the gamewinning RBI with a strong hit into left field to make it 10-0 and end it right there.
Matley went 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Stamler was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Miller had one hit and two RBIs, and Hughes had one hit and one RBI. Also, Brad States had one hit.
On the mound, Kerr had nine strikeouts, including three straight in the third inning, while walking one and giving up one hit — Ridgway’s only one of the game. In relief, Miller walked three and struck out three.
