Joseph M. Carney Sr., 86

Joseph M. Carney Sr., 86, of Hamilton, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022, at home with his family by his side.

He was born April 20, 1936, to James Blaise and Mildred (Randall) Carney in Wilkinsburg.

He attended the Grange Church of God. Joe was a coal miner for many years. He owned and operated a junkyard, was a farmer and later in life became a landlord. After his retirement, Joe along with his wife Susan built an antique museum with items he acquired over the years. They continually added to the museum by attending auctions, which was one of his favorite things to do. Joe enjoyed traveling, bus tours, playing solitaire and attending Center Hall antique tractor shows. Joe has over 60 antique tractors in his collection. When he was younger, he and his wife would have large Halloween parties and give hay rides with his antique tractors.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, whom he married, April 3, 1971, Susan Gail (Kromer) Carney, Hamilton; six children, Brenda Carney, Sarasota, Florida, Debbie Carney Yeager and husband Randy, Punxsutawney, Tammi Ward, Park Hall, Maryland, Tonia McEwen and husband Kevin, Sandy Lake, Trina Carney, Punxsutawney, and Ed Carney, Hamilton; three sisters, Alice Link, Glenshaw, Sally Jordon and husband James, and Sue Wolf and husband Paul, both of Allison Park; 20 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mildred (Carney) Buffington; a daughter, Norma Jean Carney; a son, Joseph Michael Carney Jr.; and daughter-in-law Brandi Carney.

Friends will be received on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until the time of service at 5:30 p.m. at the Grange Church of God, 97 Enterline Road, Punxsutawney, PA 15767, with Pastor Dave Hollis officiating. Interment will take place at the Carney Cemetery on the family farm.

The McCabe Funeral Home Inc., of Punxsutawney, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
