Agnes D. Shaffer, 96, of Oliveburg, died Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Indiana Square Personal Care Home in Indiana, Pa.

She was born Jan. 4, 1926, in Luciusboro, Indiana County, to the late Anna (Simpson) and Clifford Swab.

On July 19, 1947, she married James L. Shaffer I, who preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 2010.

Agnes worked as a nurse’s aide at the Punxsutawn­ey Area Hospital from 1959 to 1985. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Oliveburg Presbyteri­an Church.

She enjoyed reading books, crocheting and baking.

She is survived by two children, son James L. Shaffer II of Oliveburg and daughter Connie Engelholm and husband Fred of Oliveburg; four grandchild­ren, James L. Shaffer III and wife Laura of Punxsutawn­ey, Kelly Salsgiver and husband Jamie of DeLancey, Cory J. Shaffer and wife Angela of Punxsutawn­ey and Robert Engelholm and wife Haley of Punxsutawn­ey; and two great-grandchild­ren, Gibson T. Cochran of Punxsutawn­ey and Blake Shaffer of Punxsutawn­ey.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, William and Clifford Shaffer; three sisters, Delores Gallagher, Hazel Yakubosky and Ruth Bartlebaug­h; and four brothers, Thomas Swab, John Swab, Clarence Swab and Clifford Swab.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2022, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawn­ey.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., following visitation, with Reverend Glenn McQuown officiatin­g.

Interment will be in Olive Cemetery, Oliveburg.
