National Night Out returns to Punxsy today
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Today is National Night Out, a day set aside to promote police-community partnerships and engage residents in the effort to support the health and safety of their friends and neighbors.
State Rep. Brian Smith, said that millions of people across the country will take part in National Night Out events, including block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and more.
The Punxsutawney Borough Police Department will also be hosting its annual National Night Out event tonight in Barclay Square, from 5. to 8 p.m. tonight. The event is making its return after being absent since 2019.
Smith said visitors should stop by his office’s table.
“I would love to meet you, and they’ll do a photo op along with free kids publications,” Smith said.
Matt Conrad, Punxsy borough police chief, said in addition to the state representative’s office there will be 20 to 30 organizations providing information on what services they provide.
“Each group will have some type of activity for kids to do,” Conrad said.
The fun will include bounce houses. The Chuck Wagon will be providing the food.

“National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.
“Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
“Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August.”
