John Michael Koromaus, 83

John Michael Koromaus, 83, of De Lancey, passed away during the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, while a resident at Andover Village Skilled Nursing & Rehabilita­tion in Andover, Ohio.

He was born on Oct. 8, 1939, to the late Joseph and Helen (Rosman) Koromaus in Punxsutawn­ey.

John graduated from Punxsutawn­ey High School with the Class of 1957 and worked for Jefferson Grocery throughout his career. He proudly served his country as a soldier with the United States Army from 1962 to 1968. John married the love of this life, Elaine Pluchinsky on May 7, 1966, in Punxsutawn­ey; Elaine survives him.

John was a longtime member of Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Punxsutawn­ey; he was also a member of the Men’s Club organized by the church. He was also a member of the Punxsutawn­ey Eagles Club and the Walston Club. John loved football and was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, as well as the Pitt Panthers. John admired the simplicity and quietness of spending time around his “burn barrel”; it was one of his favorite spots. John was a caring person who never passed judgment on others and “went to great lengths to mind his own business.” He will be dearly missed by his family and community.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by two sons, David (Sharon) Koromaus and Marc (Richelle “Shelly”) Koromaus; four grandchild­ren, Sydney, Logan, Max and Lukas; three siblings, Elizabeth (Frank) Mozina, Theodore (Jeanne) Koromaus and Helen (Doug “Charlie”) Morris; and 14 nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in passing by one brother, Joseph M. Koromaus.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Fait – d’Argy Funeral Home, 117 N. Jefferson St., Punxsutawn­ey, PA 15767. A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, Feb. 10, 2023, at the Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, 714 Sutton St., Punxsutawn­ey, PA 15767, beginning at 11 a.m. and officiated by Father Vasyl Kadar. Military honors will be rendered following the service. Interment will take place at Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Cemetery, De Lancey, Jefferson County.
