Dorothy Enid (Long) Veite, 82
Dorothy Enid (Long) Veite, 82, of Stump Creek, passed away Feb. 9, 2023, at Embassy of Hillsdale Park.
She was born on Sept. 23, 1940, in Punxsutawney, the daughter of the late Edgar Blaine Slick Sr. and Jean Grace (Hetrick) Slick.
She became the wife of Ronald E. Long, Sr. They had four children and raised a wonderful family. He preceded her in death.
In May of 1975, she married James E. Veite. He preceded her in death in 1993. Dorothy enjoyed the company of others and found companionship in Amos Gibson until he passed away.
Retired, Dorothy was the owner of Dorothy Veite Beauty Salon for over 20 years; she had also worked for over 20 years at Loree Footwear, where she sewed shoes.
Dorothy was a member of the Punxsutawney Wesleyan Church.
Dorothy loved listening to country music. She attended many concerts of musicians like Travis Tritt, Vince Gill and Dwight Yokum and Sugar Bear with her family and friends over the years. She had the privilege of attending her last concert with her granddaughter Maggie and family to see Lee Greenwood perform in Punxsutawney. She had a passion for collecting dollhouse miniature scale furnishings; she amassed quite a collection over the years. In her later years, her favorite pastime was sitting on her porch and enjoying the quiet and the company of her toy poodle, Bella. She will be remembered as being “the best grandma” ever.
Dorothy is survived by her two children, Esther Reed of Punxsutawney and Ronald Long and wife Kelly of Luthersburg; four grandchildren, Maggie Aikens and husband Greg, Holly Long, Erin Paul and husband Jeff, and Ben Long; and six great-grandchildren, Melia, Carter, Rayna, James, Charles and Adah. She is also survived by her best friend, Connie Ross of Punxsutawney.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert E. Long, Sr. and James Veite; two sons, Tomothy Long and James Long Sr.; a grandson, James Long Jr.; a brother, Edger Slick Jr.; and two sisters: Elizabeth Stewart and infant Margaret Slick.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2023, at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Don Bair officiating.
Burial will be Oliveburg Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Dorothy’s memory to the American Heart Association.
