Letter to the Editor

Just wanted to let you know my thoughts about the Young Township Rec board article in Thursday’s edition of The Spirit.

I do not live in Walston, nor do I have any affiliation with it other than using the tennis court for practice when my daughter was on the Punxsutawney school district tennis team. I, like everyone else, was distressed when the Walston Festival came to a halt some years ago, taking away the town’s only social event. Many people from out of town who had roots in that place would make it a priority to visit and take part in Walston’s grand homecoming. The food, friends and fireworks made for unforgettable experiences.

So it warmed my heart to see a group of individuals take it upon themselves to make this event occur once again. To commit their free time so that others may enjoy a pleasant festival is truly commendable. I am so proud to live in a nearby community that also values these small-town social events. I’m sure anyone who has never worked behind the scenes knows the long hours it takes to pull off something like this, so let’s be thankful that these board members are willing to step up through their dedication and hard work to make the Walston Festival a reality. You people rock! See you at the festival!
