Brookville student rep talks Harrisburg trip
BROOKVILLE — Brookville student representative Kat Kelly gave the school board an update on a trip the students took to Harrisburg at the most recent meeting, as well as other activities happening at the school.
She said the Youth in Government Club went to Harrisburg this month to “take over” the Capitol. She said the members had an excellent time meeting people with the same passion for politics. She said all of the students who were part of the legislative and Senate areas had all of their bills pass through their committees, which she said was a first.
Board member Matthew Park asked if the Youth in Government Club was in partnership with the Brookville YMCA. Kelly said it was. She said the club advisors are teachers Melissa Burton and Cody Wells.
Park said he was glad that the school is partnering with the YMCA in regard to the club.
Board member Luc Doolittle thanked Burton and Wells for all of the time and dedication they put in to get the students down to Harrisburg. He said he was one of the founding members of the Youth in Government organization and knows what all of those activities entail. He said he is glad to see the organization flourishing after his time.

She said the Greek Olympics are approaching, during which junior high students participate in a variety of fun events. She said many
of the upperclassmen help out at this event and spend the day with the younger kids.
She said photographer JB Graphics, which takes many pictures of Brookville sporting events, recently held a voting session naming the 2023 JB Graphics District 9 Basketball awards. She said Brookville students were mentioned many times. She said Isaac Hetrick was voted best 6th, Connor Marshall voted best handles, Marshall and Clayton Cook voted best dynamic duo, Kellan Haines voted as sophomore of the year, the Brookville vs. Seton Lasalle (PIAA 3A first round) voted game of the year, Pete voted defensive player of the year, the Brookville Raiders boys basketball team voted team of the year, Cook voted most valuable player, and Lucas Haight voted fan of the year for the second year in a row.
