Chucks track/field bests two teams in ECC dual meet
ST. MARYS — The Punxsutawney Chucks track and field team traveled to Elk County Catholic on Tuesday afternoon for a dual meet against the host school and Port Allegany.
The Chucks went on to beat ECC 131-19 and Port Allegany 132-18 to move to 8-1 in the season so far.
Senior Grant Miller took first in the pole vault with a mark of 13-06. “Grant continued to shine in the pole vault, narrowly missing a jump at 14-01, which would have set a new school record,” said Punxsy coach Jason Grusky.
In the shot put (34-10.5) and javelin (124-07), Joel Mehalic went on to score nine points in the team scoring with his finishes.
Sam Hindman took third in the 400-meter dash (57.40), while also taking third in the triple jump with a mark of 33-08, scoring four points for the team.
Matthew Grusky took first in the discus with a throw of 129-04.5, which was an improvement of over one foot for a new personal best.
Also, Logan Moore took first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.50, which was his first top finish of the season, while Zach Presloid took first in the long jump with a mark of 19-05.5.
Punxsy will be back in action on Friday, with a trip to the Northern Bedford Invite with 19 other teams from Southern PA, along with ones from West Virginia and Maryland.
