THE NEW 911 SPORT CLASSIC

-

Porsche's latest Heritage Design model, the new 911 Sport Classic reinterprets historical design elements from the 1960s and 70s.

The new 911 Sport Classic is the second of four limitedproduction models that Porsche has presented from its Heritage Design strategy. The series by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur is limited to a total of 1,250 vehicles and revives the style of the 1960s and early 1970s. Like its 2009 predecessor, the 911 Sport Classic based on the Type-997, this new vehicle is inspired by the original model of the 911 (1964 – 1973) and, in particular, the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 (1972).

The unique nature of this model is emphasized by a wide body – otherwise reserved for the 911 Turbo models – a fixed rear spoiler in the style of the legendary 'ducktail' 911 Carrera RS 2.7, plus exclusive paintwork in Sport Grey Metallic with painted double stripes. The double-bubble roof, with its striking dynamic recess, is another highlight of the design. In the interior, the iconic Pepita pattern can be found on the door panels and seat centers, while two-tone, semi-aniline leather upholstery in Black/Classic Cognac provides an elegant contrast with the exterior color.

The powertrain concept is equally unique: the 3.7-liter, twin-turbo flat-six engine transmits 543 hp to the road via the rear wheels. In combination exclusively with the seven-speed manual gearbox, the new 911 Sport Classic is the most powerful manual 911 available today. The 911 Sport Classic can now be ordered, with a starting MSRP of US$273,750, excluding $1,450 for delivery, processing and handling. Deliveries through U.S. dealers are expected in late 2022 for the 2023 model year.

Porsche Design has also created a high-quality chronograph exclusively available to drivers who purchase the collectors' edition vehicle. The watch picks up on numerous details from the new 911 Sport Classic design: for example, the dial is available with grey Sport Classic stripes or the Pepita pattern, while the design of the winding rotor is based on the vehicle's wheels. In addition, the two wristbands delivered with the watch are made from the same leather as the upholstery in the vehicle interior and feature an embossed ‘911'.

"The Heritage Design models represent the particularly emotionally pronounced concepts of Porsche's product strategy," says Alexander Fabig, Head of Individualisation and Classic. “In this unusual approach, the 'Style Porsche' design department, together with Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, reinterprets iconic 911 models and equipment from the 1950s to the 1980s and revisits design features."

Staggered over time and in limited numbers, Porsche will launch a total of four models as part of the Heritage Design Strategy. The first model of the series was presented in 2020: the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition featuring design elements from the 1950s and 1960s.

The precursor to the Heritage Design strategy was the Heritage Design Package for the 911 Speedster, presented in 2019.

The Heritage Design strategy also takes the form of special equipment packages for most of the current 911 models. Porsche plans to launch a package with a selection of interior elements alongside each limited edition series. The new Heritage Design Package Classic now allows drivers to capture the flair of the 1960s and early 1970s on additional body styles.
