SARATOGA SPRINGS >> It’s been a tricky journey for local magician Steven Brundage, who appeared on America’s Got Talent this season of the reality competition show. Now, it seems he’s pulled off a classic act for magicians: disappearing and reappearing.

Brundage moved to Saratoga Springs six months ago and frequently performed on Broadway. He is best known for a trick with a Rubik’s cube in which he throws the cube up and when it lands back in his hands, it is solved. In fact, Brundage garnered national attention when a video of him getting out of a traffic ticket with the trick went viral online.

Brundage made it past the audition phase, but was cut during the “judge cuts” round of the show. A petition on change. org called for Brundage to be brought back for the live shows as a wild card. It seems fans, and Brundage, got what they wanted, as Brundage announced Tuesday that he has been asked back to the live rounds of America’s Got Talent.

“To finally get the official ‘yes’ was a super sigh of relief,” Brundage said.

Brundage will appear on his first live episode on August 2, when America will either vote him through or he will again be sent home. The vote will be revealed the following episode on August 3. Because the show is live, Brundage said there is a lot more preparation, and pressure, this time around. No matter what happens, though, Brundage is thankful for his supporters.

“The petition itself and the support has just been great to have,” he said. “It’s a TV show so anything can happen. If I don’t go through, I’ll still be happy to have this experience. If I do go through, I’ll be one step closer to $1 million.”

Brundage said he’s been preparing for his live performance, again with a Rubik’s cube, and that it will be something that noone has seen.

“The scary part is that the routine I did before I’ve done 10,000 times,” he said. “This routine I haven’t done that much. There’s a lot more added pressure that this is live now.”

Brundage recently performed at the Saratoga Hilton to a sold-out show. He will perform there again on August 12 and 19. He flies back after next week’s live rounds in Los Angeles. If he makes it through to the rounds after that, he will fly back to LA at the end of August. Brundage is optimistic, but acknowledges that there is a lot more competition this time.

“The competition is getting tougher and tougher,” he said. “When you’re first doing it, there’s acts that aren’t very good that you know aren’t going to go through. Now, it’s 12 acts narrowed down to six.”

At any rate, the Saratoga community will be watching with eyes glued to the screen next week when Brundage takes the stage live.
