VISITING FRESHMEN
Incoming students learn about Columbia High School
EAST GREENBUSH >> Freshmen entering Columbia High School were able to learn some much needed information before their first full day of high school.
Upperclassmen led the 18th annual Freshman Orientation on Thursday morning at the high school.
A total of 306 ninth-graders were introduced to their new school with a half-day program. The first full-day of high school is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 6.
The incoming freshman class was able to participate in four 20-minute information sessions that were geared toward providing the freshman class with some much needed information to help make the transition into high school a little easier.
The four information sessions taught ninth-grade students about teacher expectations, clubs and activities, cultural competence, and school safety.
The freshman class was able to hear from many different upperclassmen about their experiences at the high school and what to expect at the high school. The class of 2020 also heard from class advisers and principals at the high school. Some parents were also on hand during the orientation and they were able to receive additional information about the high school from many different school officials during their own information session Thursday.
During the freshman orientation, students were also able to receive important information about cyber bullying and the freshmen were also able to take a much needed tour of the high school. The orientation ended with a picnic lunch with all the freshman and upperclassmen leaders.
