The Record (Troy, NY)

Sound-off

Welcome, RPI, Russell Sage, and HVCC students! You’re what Troy is all about!

••• I’d like to tell the people of Rensselaer that Charlie Daniels is doing just as bad a job as Joyce Sullivan was doing with the pistol permits. They still have the records all messed up, and they’re still denying that people coming in from other counties have their pistol permits, when they do, because they didn’t retrieve them.

••• After what’s going on in Albany, I wonder what’s the oldest building in Troy. Does anybody know?

••• Troy mayor Madden says he wants to recruit minorities for the Troy fire department. But it’s strange that of all the appointments he’s made since he’s been mayor, he hasn’t appointed one minority to his executive branch. It just shows you it’s politics as usual in Troy.

••• On the Record front page I see that the fire department is reaching out to try and recruit minorities and economically disadvantaged people to join. Get real, people. First of all, the poor people are not going to join the fire department no matter what the pay is when they can stay home and not risk their lives for free. Welfare people are basically lazy. That’s what you’re going to get, and it’s never going to change.

••• Troy mayor Madden says he wants more minorities working for the Troy fire department. However, since he’s been mayor, he hasn’t appointed one minority to his administration, even though he’s had several high-profile appointments. That’s what is known as political hypocrisy.

••• Troy doesn’t need any more low-income properties for single-parent families. You can’t build a city on low-income housing and single-parent families. Troy doesn’t need the attorney general’s program.

••• Just a great big thank you to the Troy Record. When I don’t have my paper delivered, they always come through. The man comes here and brings my paper. He’s very prompt and very courteous. Thanks again.

••• Is the city of Troy waiting for the crack and the road to drop more on Eighth Street near College Avenue before it’s repaired, or are they waiting for state and federal money? Let’s hope they don’t wait until it becomes a major job.

••• This regards the new $18 million Marriott to be built at the old Hedley dealership. Nice! It includes a tax break over 20 years of $7.87 million that could be on the tax roll and help the property owners in Troy with their taxes that are overburdened now. I wish I had 20 years tax-free…. The taxpayers are getting screwed again by Troy giving these tax breaks. I don’t care about the economy, the pennies going into businesses, whatever they want. That may affect businesses but it doesn’t affect my property taxes.

••• I would like to thank the Cohoes department of public works for acting on a problem I’ve had with water when it rains in front of my house. They came and looked at it and within a week they tried to correct it. I’d like to thank them for acting so soon.

••• To the people calling in regarding the Cohoes fire and police department: they should find out how many people of color took the exam and passed it, and also how many who did pass it were reachable to be put on the force.

••• The neighbors on Center View Drive need to stop feeding peanuts to squirrels. People and children are severely allergic to peanuts, and squirrels do horrific damage to city garbage cans, homes and wiring. Please stop before Animal Control is called on you, as well as Code Enforcement.

••• The people who tore down the trees around Van Schaick Pond in Cohoes should have everything they own burned, and should never be allowed to live anywhere again. They should be homeless for the rest of eternity.

••• I’d like to congratulate the person or persons who painted the beautiful mural on the Troy side of the Menands bridge. It’s truly a masterpiece.

••• With all the problems Troy has, I just don’t understand why the City Council spends time passing or not passing laws that have to do with the number of pets in a house. Come on, do something that’s useful. You’re hired to take care of the people, not take care of the dogs.

••• Another three-car crash at the intersection of Broad Street and Second Avenue in the village of Waterford. God forbid they put a light up there. Everybody’s been asking for many, many years.

••• After listening to Mr. Talk 1300 this morning for approximately three minutes, I realized that he should be running for president. He’s got the answers to every problem. Everything is known to Mr. 1300.

••• Anyone whose standard of living depends on trucks and trains at the Port of Albany is too greedy to be allowed to exist.

••• I’d just like to know what’s been going on and what disciplinary action has been taken against the two Rensselaer police officers who killed the woodchuck. I haven’t heard anything about it in a while and I wanted to know what was being done.

••• I take the Renssealer County senior van in the morning to volunteer. A lot of people just take their cars and park them so our van drivers have an awful hard time. Where are our police when we need them?

••• We live in Troy and we were wondering when Shop-Rite is going to build their new store in Troy and where it’s going to be located. It would be very helpful if someone could get back to us about this. Thank you.

••• Trump the Godfather has opened the hunting season early on Hillary Clinton.

••• Hillary Clinton wants to allow hundreds of thousands of more refugees into this country. They will not be properly vetted and each will cost tens of thousands to bring here, and will automatically get welfare and other benefits once they get here. She also wants to legalize millions illegal aliens and allow more to cross the border. Many will carry diseases, drugs, guns and may have terrorist ties. We simply can’t afford this kind of cost, as this country currently has a $19.4 trillion debt.

••• How many of you out there have seen the picture of the president’s daughter smoking pot at a concert? But everybody will say “Well, that’s what teenagers do.” That’s what teenagers named Bush and Palin did, and look what happened to them. It was all over the press. So if your name is Bush or Palin it doesn’t matter; only if you’re the president’s daughter.

••• When George Bush was president, the liberals and the liberal-fawning media complained of how we were allegedly waterboarding prisoners to get information to save American soldiers. Now that Obama is president, we don’t hear anything about how ISIS is beheading people, tossing them off buildings, killing gays, lesbians, Christians, Kurds and anyone else they don’t agree with. Is this another case of biased media?

••• I’m sure you’ve all seen the commercial for abused animals with the sad music, but every day you hear about abused children being found kidnapped, abused by their mothers’ boyfriends, or killed. Where are the commercials for our abused little children?

••• Is Assemblyman Jim Tedisco the co-owner of the Snapshot column in your newspaper? If not, he certainly gets his picture in there an inordinate amount of times. I have to wonder when he has time to work.

••• This black person who was shot by a policeman in Milwaukee, they made a big racial incident of it because this leftist media just likes to climb all over anything that’s the least bit possibly racial. But the facts are that a black policeman shot a black man who was armed and aimed a pistol at him. For the life of me I can’t figure out how that got to be racism and why the black people of that area looted the buildings and burned them down. This was just an excuse for some more anarchy.

••• Before President Obama there was virtually no outlandish presence of Islam in America, and all of a sudden we’re apologizing to Muslim states that sponsor worldwide terrorism. He won’t attend a funeral for General Green, killed in action; instead he played golf. He sends big delegations to Michael Brown’s funeral but a minor delegation to Margaret Thatcher’s funeral. He won’t acknowledge Chris Kyle’s murder but he’ll fly a flag half-mast for Whitney Houston….We had no problem with Muslims in this country before him…. You tell me he’s not a Muslim? You ain’t got me fooled.

••• The new anchor on Channel 13, Karen Tararache, is very competent and articulate, and she seems like a good addition, but whatever happened to Jessica Layton? I never heard anything about her. She just seemed to be gone one day and nobody said why. I wonder if anyone knows.

••• Some years ago we all knew people who were homosexuals, and that was their choice. But now we are forced to hear about it 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. But that doesn’t mean we should all be forced to accept it.
