Police: Trucker at fault in serious Route 4 crash
NORTH GREENBUSH >> Police say a Massachusetts truck driver was at fault in a crash earlier this month that seriously injured a motorcyclist. In a Monday afternoon news release, town Police Chief Robert Durivage said Nathan J. Assanov, 36, of Webster, Massachusetts, was ticketed on charges of making an improper left turn and failure to yield the right of way in the Sept. 8 crash that injured Harold M. Kalinchak, 70, of Latham.
“Based on an investigation conducted by accident investigators from the North Greenbush Police Department, it was determined that Nathan J. Assanov was at fault and caused this serious collision,” Durivage said in the release.
Durivage said Assanov made a left turn with the 2015 Freightliner box truck he was driving into the path of Kalinchak’s 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle about 10:10 a.m. Sept. 8 at the intersection of Route 4 and Shepherd Drive. Kalinchak sustained serious injuries in the crash and was taken to Albany Medical Cen-
ter.
The crash also led to the closure of Route 4, a major thoroughfare, for more than five hours as investigators examined the scene.
Assanov was also charged with having a leftturn light out and switching a tax permit sticker affixed to the truck after a subsequent inspection of the vehicle, Durivage said. Assanov is scheduled to answer the charges Oct. 18 in North Greenbush Town Court.
