Person falls from Poestenkill Gorge cliffs

TROY, N.Y.>> An unidentified individual fell from the rocks of Poestenkill Gorge on Saturday and plunged into the water below, Troy Police said.

The person was in the area of The Cookie Factory, and may have struck the head prior to going into the water, police said.

As of 5 p.m. on Saturday, the person had not surfaced and water was too turbulent for rescue divers to enter.

No further information was available as of early Saturday evening.

This is not the first time someone has fallen from the Poestenkill Gorge cliffs. Most recently, 16-year-old Connor Reynolds fell and died from a cliff there last June.

“What makes it beautiful makes it dangerous,” said Troy Mayor Patrick Madden on Saturday.
