PITTSTOWN - Delbert H. “Del” Wilber, 70, died suddenly Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, after being stricken at his longtime Route 7 home.
Born in Troy, September 13, 1946, Del was the son of the late Ross and Elizabeth (Vandenburgh) Wilber and for over 48 years the devoted husband of Cheryl A. (Goman) Wilbur of Pitt- stown, who survives. Del and Cheryl were married on March 29, 1969.
Del was a graduate of Hoosic Valley High School.
As a young man he worked at the former Frosted Foods Company in Alba- ny and later at the former Grand Union Warehouse in Waterford. Most recently he had been employed as a fork truck driver by the American Seal Company in Waterford. After more than 20 years of service, he retired in 2002.
Del lived in Valley Falls for many years before relocating to Pittstown in 1994. He was a member of the Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps and served as a driver for 10 years. Additionally, he was a "Volunteer Grandfather” for over 10 years at the Head Start Program in Hoosick Falls. He was a former member of the Pittstown Volunteer Fire Police. In his quiet time, he enjoyed the hobby of coloring to assist with his fine motor skills and as a way to assist in relaxing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Raymond Lovely and a son and daughter-in-law, Michael Wilber and Holly Connors, all of Pittstown, a sister and brother-in-law, Debra and William Dalaba of Malta and a brother and two sisters-in-law, Ross and Debra Wilber and “Tink” Tordoff, all of East Greenbush, four grandchildren, Matthew Palmer, Adam Johnson, Ashley Elizabeth Lovely and Jeanette Wilber, all of Pittstown and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was pre- deceased by a brother, the late Roger Tordoff.
A funeral service with ception to follow, will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps., 60 Parker School Road, Johnson- ville, NY 12094, with Rev. Clyde MaCaskill officiating. Burial will be private at the conveniences of the fam- ily. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the “Rescue Squad” on Satur- day from 11:00 – 2:00 P.M., prior to the service.
At the request of the family, memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Pittstown Volunteer Rescue Squad in memory of Delbert “Del” Wilber.
