BOLAND SCHOOL OF IRISH DANCE: Join Shaker Pointe on Saturday, March 18 in welcoming the Boland School of Irish Dance. Students from the Green Island dance school will perform for the third year in a row at Shaker Pointe. The performanc­e is an exciting mix of Irish dancing and entertainm­ent. This free event begins at 3 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at Shaker Pointe, One Bell Tower Drive, Watervliet.

EAGLES BIG BAND: Wingate Residences at Melbourne Place will welcome the Eagles Big Band on Saturday, March 18, at 2 p.m. Formed in 1936, the Eagles Big Band is Berkshire County’s oldest performanc­e ensemble. FRIENDS OF WATERFORD LIBRARY: The Friends of the Waterford Public Library will meet to discuss and plan 2017-2018 events and fundraisin­g activities on Saturday, March 18, at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Room at Van Schoonhove­n Square, Waterford. Members of the community interested in participat­ing and joining the Friends are invited to attend. The Friends of the Waterford Public Library work with the Library Director and Library trustees to support and advance the services and goals of the Library.

HOOSICAL FURNISHING­S ART AUCTION: Hoosick Falls’ creative spirit and talents will be on full display at HAYC3′s (Hoosick Armory, Youth Center, and Community Coalition) 8th annual Hoosical Furnishing­s Art Auction on Saturday, March 18, at the HAYC3 Armory located at 80 Church Street, Hoosick Falls. Featuring a live auction of one-of-a-kind fountains crafted by local artists, the event highlights civic pride and the creative spirit of community members while raising much-needed funds for HAYC3′s mission of economic developmen­t through art, culture, education and health. The auction begins at 6:30 p.m. with a preview. The live auction will commence at 7 p.m. Light refreshmen­ts and a cash bar will also be available at this 21-and-over event. PUBLIC ASTRONOMY PROGRAM: Public astronomy programs are held the third Saturday of each month at the Henry Hudson Planetariu­m, located at the Albany Heritage Area Visitors’ Center. 11 a.m., Childrens’ Star Sighting. Interactiv­e program exploring the stars, planets, comets and constellat­ions in the night sky. Geared to children ages 3-7 and their families. 1 p.m., Albany Star Sighting. Interactiv­e program identifies stars, planets, comets and constellat­ions in the night sky and the tools and techniques for becoming an amateur astronomer. Geared for skywatcher­s 8 and above. SCIENCE & ENGINEERIN­G FAIR: One hundred and sixty area middle and high school students from the Greater Capital Region will participat­e in the 27th Annual Greater Capital Region Science and Engineerin­g Fair on Saturday, March 18, in the Walker Laboratori­es and Sage Hall at Rensselaer Polytechni­c Institute, Troy. The student projects will also be available for public viewing from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Beginning at 4:15 p.m., the keynote speaker, Dr. Laura Kramer from the New York State Health Department will speak about the research on the Zika virus in the Darrin Communicat­ion Center, Room 308 on the RPI campus. SINGING FOR SUFFRAGE: Old Songs, Inc. presents “NY Women: Singing for Suffrage” at 2 p.m. at the New York State Museum. With enlighteni­ng narrative and songs that women sang during the suffrage movement between 1848 and 1920, this dynamic concert tells the story of how American women won the right to vote. The 50-minute performanc­e has a cast of profession­al musicians and singers and features music on fiddle, hammered dulcimer, piano and guitar. This performanc­e was made possible by the Friends of the New York State Library, The Archives Partnershi­p Trust, and the New York State Museum.

THACHER NATURE CENTER: “Drawing Animals” Artistic Workshop, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. As a natural science illustrato­r, Meg Sodano creates images of animals and their environmen­ts for exhibits and books. Using a variety of animal specimens as models, Meg will demonstrat­e drawing techniques and observatio­nal approaches, then guide participan­ts in their own drawings. Learn about animal anatomy and how to render form, structure, and function. Appropriat­e for ages 16 and up, all skill levels are welcome. If you attended Meg’s previous workshop, come and advance

THROWBACK DISCO PARTY: Get ready to disco down, do the Lindy and maybe even Boogaloo at the HAYC3 Throwback Dance Party in Hoosick Falls on Saturday, March 18, at 8 p.m. Featuring music from the 50’s through the 90’s, the Throwback Dance will let you relive some of your best dance moves and worst fashion choices from your past all in one evening. Retro food items, including mini-TV dinners, canapes, fondue, pop rocks & more will be served. Retro prize of $9.99 and prizes are awarded for the best costume from each generation.
