Hoosick Falls’ Pine named Wasaren MVP

Hoosick Falls senior Kelly Pine was named the MVP of the Wasaren League girls basketball league.

The senior was among the league leaders in scoring and helped the Panthers to a No. 25 spot in the latest New York Sports Writers girls basketball Class B state rankings.

Pine’s teammate Lizza Ryan, a senior, was named a first-team Wasaren League all-star.

Two members of the league champion Tamarac girls basketball team were selected as first team Wasaren League all-stars.

Senior Hannah Kreiger and sophomore Emily Erickson led the Bengals to the Section II Class B final and were named first-team league all-stars.

Cami Hren, a senior, of Hoosic Valley and Olivia Barnes, a senior, of Greenwich are the other two first-team selections.

The Wasaren League second team all-stars are sophomore Renna Poulin of Tamarac, senior Danika Svendsen of Stillwater, senior Sammy Pasinella of Mechanicvi­lle, junior Becky Keasbey of Hoosic Valley and senior Julia Amedeo of Mechanicvi­lle.

Women’s college basketball

AVERILL PARK GRAD DONNELLY NAMED ALL-AMERICAN HM >> For the second season in a row, Skidmore College women’s basketball junior guard Kelly Donnelly was named a Women’s Basketball Coaches Associatio­n NCAA Division III Coaches All-American honorable mention. Donnelly becomes the first two-time All-American honorable mention in program history.

The Averill Park grad joins 40 outstandin­g student-athletes on the first team and honorable mention lists. The team was selected by a committee of WBCA member coaches throughout Division III.

The 2016-17 Liberty League’s Player of the Year, Donnelly led the Thoroughbr­eds, in scoring (20.9 points per game) and rebounds (11.0), was second in steals per game (2.7), and was third in field goal percentage (.465). Donnelly also cracked a pair of Thoroughbr­ed records, first scoring her 1,000th point on Jan. 10, becoming the 14th Thoroughbr­ed and the third junior to do so, then she set a new program record for points in a season, finishing with 543. Donnelly will enter her senior year with an incredible 1,283 points and 776 rebounds.

In just three seasons, Donnelly has become perhaps the most decorated student-athlete in program history. She became the third women’s basketball student-athlete to earn two Liberty League Player of the Year nods and is a two-time member of the D3hoops.com All-East Region Team. In 2014-15, Donnelly was named as the Liberty League’s CoRookie of the Year, and she’s excelled in the classroom as a two-time member of the league’s All-Academic Team.

Girls lacrosse

ST. BONAVENTUR­E 18, SIENA 13 >> Six different goal scorers was not enough to push Siena Women’s Lacrosse past St. Bonaventur­e who took the game 18-13. The Bonnies last defeated the Saints in 2013.

LeighAnn Stauffer led all scorers with seven points off of four goals and three assists for St. Bonaventur­e (2-4). Mary Maestri recorded four goals for the Bonnies, while both Taylor Fallon and Rylee Arnold both notched hattricks.

Michelle Schwartz led all Siena (1-5) scorers with six points coming off four goals and two assists. Lauren Anglim recorded a hat-trick with three goals, while both Alexis Deaken and Briana Sirianni notched two goals.
