Updated County website nears completion
RENSSELAER COUNTY, N.Y. >> Residents who visit the county website will soon be seeing a completed updated website.
For the past six months, county officials have been working to make significant upgrades to the county website, since it had not been updated in the last 14 years.
“The former site was about 14 years old and as a result the design architecture, the manner in which the information on the site was being displayed and the tools that were used to manage that information content were all outdated,” said Vince Ruggerio, director of information technology for the county.
Ruggerio said that the website will now have a new look to it and that it will be more organized for people to access different parts of the website.
“The website now has a new look and feel,” said Ruggerio. “The information that is out there is presented in a friendlier manner and it’s easier to access.”
Deputy Rensselaer County Executive Chris Meyer said that the website updating is a joint project between Rensselaer County Tourism, Rensselaer County IDA and also with economic development. Meyer said that the joint effort will cost $20,000 to complete.
County officials are also happy that the updated website will also make it easier for different county departments to get information published on the website faster.
“Internally, county departments will be managing their own website area, so information will then be easier to get out to the website and they can get the information out there more quickly,” explained Ruggerio. “It’s going to provide us with a vehi- cle that will allow us to get the most information out there in the shortest amount of time.”
Meyer’s said that the county is hopeful that the updated website will be more user friendly for people visiting the website and that county officials will be able to publish their information on the website easier, too.
“We’re hopeful that it’s an eas- ier format for people to find the information their seeking on county government, programs and services through the county,” said Meyer. “This will allow us to get information out there quicker for the public to see.”
County officials said that they are anticipating the website to be completely updated within the next month.
