Women sentenced to jail after crashing twice while drunk
TROY, N.Y. >> A Cohoes woman will spend as much as a year in jail after she admitted to crashing her vehicle twice in one night while driving drunk.
The Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office said Tracy Moruzzi, 45, was sentenced Monday in Rensselaer County Court after pleading guilty in January to a felony count of first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated for her role in the pair of Aug. 2, 2016, crashes.
Moruzzi first rear-ended another vehicle on Route 151 in the town of Sand Lake and fled the scene, then, a short time later, drove off Luther Road in the town of East Greenbush, struck some trees and damaged lawns and other landscaping. When officers arrived at the scene, they said they found Moruzzi staggering outside her 2009 Toyota. While she blamed that crash on a deer running into the road, a breath test indicated a blood-alcohol content of 0.3 percent, nearly four times the legal limit in New York state.
“This defendant flagrantly disregarded the lives of others through her selfish conduct,” District Attorney Joel Abelove said in a news release announcing the sentencing. “Given her history of drinking and driving, Ms. Moruzzi belongs in jail.”
Moruzzi was also ordered to pay restitution to victims of the crashes and had an existing revocation of her license extended.
