RAID LEADS TO 2 ARRESTS
SWAT team assisted Troy police in carrying out search warrant
TROY, N.Y.>> A fake gun was found during a search on Saturday evening in Troy, in an incident that led to two arrests.
On Saturday afternoon Troy Police developed information that there might be an illegal handgun in a home at 365-367 Second St., on the corner of Monroe Street in South Troy.
With a procured search warrant and assistance f rom a Special Weapons And Tactics team, police searched the house. “In those cases where firearms are involved, we utilize the New York SWAT team to do the entry, because it’s a lot safer. We have a lot more ballistic protection in the form of ballistic shields and body armor helmets,” said Captain Richard Sprague of the Troy Police Department on Sunday. “We have a lot of tools in our toolbox that allow us to not use as much force in some cases, than average patrol guys or detectives would have to use.”
The Emergency Response Team executed the warrant at about 5 p.m. on Saturday, discovering that the firearm was there, but it was not real.
“The gun that was seen that led to this search warrant execution happened to be a fake gun, not real,”
Sprague said.
Therefore, no charges of a possession of a firearm were issued during the incident.
However, two individuals, Troy residents Danielle DeVito and Frances MacCue, were arrested for other findings discovered during the search, police said.
DeVito was taken into custody for false imper- sonation and MacCue was found with criminal possession of drug paraphernalia. Sprague said police did not have to use much force, and no one in the house resisted during the search.
“They complied, came out. We searched the building, and found what we found,” he said.
Although the gun was fake, Sprague said that measures taken during Saturday’s search were to decrease chances of anyone, police officers or residents, getting hurt.
