Successful season coming to an end

Though the ski season is ending, it’s ending on a high note.

Mount Snow in Vermont reports it will stay open through April 16 and will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt with “More than 1,000 eggs across the mountain including the Golden egg that will get you a 2017-18 Peak Pass.”

I suggest you call ahead to see if your favorite mountain is still operating.

Three Sundays ago, based on an invite for a dozen or so ski scribes, I found myself in Deerfield Valley, Vt., at the Hermitage Club at Haystack Mountain, the only exclusive private resorts in this region that I know of. We were met by, Brendan McCrail, director of communications. McCrail pointed out that the club, open year round, also has an 18-hole championship golf course. As for skiing, McCrail says you generally Fast Track at 3 p.m. meaning you can descend the slopes before they are all churned up.

As you would expect, all this exclusivity comes with a hefty price tag. The family entry fee is $85,000 and annual dues, $8,500. Hermitage, however, offers a number of payment plans. McCrail says the bulk of its members come from Connecticut and West- chester, but Hermitage can be reached from Albany, Schenectady and Saratoga in less than two hours. He’s looking to attract member families from those locations. You can reach McCrail at BMcCrail@hermitageclub.com.

The New York Capital District Ski Council awards and installation banquet is set for Saturday, April 22 at The Glen Sanders Mansion, 1 Glen Ave, Scotia beginning at 6 p.m.

Tickets cost $32. If you plan on attending, send payment to Jerry Danielski, 76 Longwood Drive, Clifton Park, NY 12065 — or call him at 518- 4666054.

If you are looking forward of spring and sum- mer, Doug Ward of the Schenectady Wintersports Club will be showing photos of SWS’s long distances paddling at tonight’s club meeting. It takes place at their regular meeting location, Ancient Order of Hibernians, 1748 State Street, Schenectady, NY.

And finally for those skiers who travel to California, the snow snowpack in the Sierra Mountains has extended the season in such places as Mammoth Mountain. They expect they’ll be skiing into summer.
