Louise H. Stevens
NORTH GREENBUSH - Louise Hoyt Stevens, 85, a longtime resident of Brunswick, died peacefully, Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Van Rensselaer Manor with her devoted family by her side following a long illness.
Born August 21, 1931 in Johnson City, NY, Mrs. Stevens was the daughter of the late Everett James Hoyt and Loretta ( Vona) Hoyt-Keenan and for over 65 years the wife of the late Robert John Stevens who preceded her in death, May 17, 2016. Louise and Bob were married March 25, 1951, at the McKendree Methodist Church in Candor, NY.
Mrs. Stevens was a graduate of Candor Central High School and after entering a local beauty pageant as a young woman, was named “Miss Tioga County.”
Following her marriage to Bob in 1951 and starting her family, she returned to school and earned a license as a beautician. For several years, while continuing to care for her home andand growing family, family she owned and operated Louise’s Beauty Shop from her Candor home.
After relocating to the Brunswick area in 1964, she worked for several additional years as a personnel clerk for the Department of the Army at the Watervliet Arsenal. She retired in August 1989.
Louise enjoyed the out- doors, nature, reupholstering furniture, carpentry and gardening. There really wasn’t much she couldn’t do. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Mrs. Stevens survivors include her children, Deborah M. and William G. Dayton of Brunswick, Theresa L. and Douglas Wingate of Brunswick, Rebecca L. and Ralph Herb of The Villages, Florida, and Robert L. and Pamela Stevens of Huntersville, North Carolina; her sisters, Joyce (Earl) Hulslander, Judy Covert, Jeannette Keenan, and Dawn Jones, a brother, Richard Dutton; sistersin-law Betty Butterfield, Velma Wilson, Linda (Kenneth) Budinger and Evelyn (Ronald) Hover; eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, the late Elizabeth Livingston and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
A memorial service with a reception to follow for Mrs. Stevens will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Noon, at the Brunswick Presbyterian Church, located on White Church Lane, in Brunswick. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Church on Saturday morning from 10 A.M. until Noon prior to the service. Burial at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville will be held at the convenience of the Stevens family.
