ON THE HUNT
Children look for Easter eggs at Troy Central Little League Field
TROY, N.Y. >> North Central Neighborhood Community Center hosted its annual Easter egg hunt Saturday afternoon at Troy Central Little League.
“[ It’s always] the Saturday before Easter we do an Easter egg hunt. We start out with a barbecue. We try to bring unity in the com- munity,” said Joycelyn Henderson.
“We don’t just exist in the community; we are a part of it.”
Henderson helps host different events throughout the year, and free food is always involved.
“Every event we do — let’s put it like this: I’m Italian,” said Henderson. “It’s gotta involve food.”
One boy, Jahqae, participated in his first Easter Egg Hunt. He’s participated in other events like Safe Night on Halloween.
“It’s fun for the kids to stay out of the streets with, like, violence and stuff,” said Jahqae.
Henderson also hosts different events throughout the year. She gives children backpacks filled with school supplies right before September. Henderson hosts brunch every other Saturday at Oaks of Righteousness on 3027 6th Ave.
The children picked up Easter eggs scattered around an entire baseball outfield. The eggs were filled with chocolate and some even had money.
“[ The money] was a surprise,” said Henderson.
Henderson said the events, “mean everything to the kids.”
Jahqae loves baseball. He plays third base and right field. But he loves hitting the ball best.
The Troy Central Little League will begin its season April 29. A parade will begin at 9:30 with opening ceremonies and the first game ready to start at 10:30 a.m.
