CIVIL RIGHTS THEN AND NOW: On Monday, April 10, at 6p.m., Paul Murray will be at the Troy Public Library to discuss “The Civil Rights Movement: Then and Now.” Professor Murray, a veteran of the Civil Rights Movement, received his Ph.D. from Florida State University in 1972. He joined the Siena College Sociology Department in 1979and retired in 2016. This program is free and open to the public. HONOR A DECEASED VETERAN: The Rensselaer County Honor a Deceased Veteran Program honors John Joseph McCann at this month’s ceremony on April 10 at 8:30a.m. in the Legislative Chambers, Third Floor of the County Office Bldg. located at 1600Seventh Avenue, Troy. John served in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS Cross, a Destroyer Escort Ship that saw action in the Pacific Theatre, and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, The American Campaign Medal and an Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 1star. After his service, John began a family while working in the Security Section of the Ford Motor Company in Green Island. John was a member of The North Albany American Legion, Post 1610. LANDIS ARBORETUM: Join members of the Landis Arboretum Garden Club in Esperance as they clean up the Van Loveland Perennial Garden near the Farmhouse from 10 a.m. to noon. Larson will compare the factual and fictional accounts (e.g. the play and film “Inherit the Wind”) of this trial and provide commentary about the cultural legacy of the trial and the film.
