Shaker boys lax ranked No. 16 in opening poll
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> Shaker High School’s boys lacrosse team is the highest ranked Class A team in Tuesday’s first New York State Sportswriters rankings.
The Bison are ranked at No. 16 in front of Corning (IV), Smithtown East ( XI), Farmingdale (VIII) and Connetquot (XI).
Guilderland and Shenendehowa received honorable mention in the Class A poll.
Niskayuna is the highest Section II ranked squad at No. 8, leading John Jay/ Cross River (I) and Canadaigua (V) in the top 10.
Ballston Spa, Burnt Hillsballston Lake and Queens- bury were honor mentions in Class B voting.
In Class C, Glens Falls was the only Section II team included as an honorable mention. DARIEN17, NISKAYUNA9 NISKAYUNA>> Darien dropped Niskayuna with a score of 17-9 behind Kevin Lindley’s six goals and one assits and seven saves by goaltender Ryan Cornell. Darien had five goals in the first, second and fourth and two in the second.
Niskayuna got four goals from Lucas Quinn and 13 saves in the net from Max Ronesi. Niskayuna had three goals in the second, third and fourth and three in the first.
CAMBRIDGE14, JOHNSTOWN2 CAMBRIDGE>> Cambridge took a strong win over Johnstown 14-2. Cambridge got five goals from Maxwell Hoffer and two goals each from Zach Rowland, Jonas Butz, Max Ratelle and three goals from Gabe Sgambettera. Christina Hunt had five saves for Cambridge.
Johnstown two goals came from Garret Way and David Hopkins.
GUILDERLAND 9, QUEENSBURY8 STILLWATER>> Guilderland moves to 3-0 and 2-0 in conference beating Queensbury 9-8
Guilderland and Queensbury went into the final quarter tied at seven goals a piece and Guilderland outscored Queensbury 2-1.
Guilderland had two goals a piece from Connor Quimby, tuker Peceri, Trevor Long and Tyler Rivera.
Queensbury was led by Alex Chirgwin’s three goals.
Sean Heller made five saves for Guilderland, while Queensbury’s Cole Capenter made 16 saves. ALBANYACADEMY6, SCHALMONT0 SCHALMONT>> Ben Seiler went six innings of shutout ball with 10 strikeouts and had a dole on the hiting side to lead Albany Academy to the 6-0 victory. Brett Young was the other big contribuor for Albany Academy going 2-4 with a homerun and wo RBI’s.
Scalmont started with Brandon LaRue, who went five innings and took the loss on the day. Matt Rash went 2-3 with a double in the loss.
Schalmont is 0-2 on the season, while Albany Academymoves to 1- 0, winning there first game of the season.
VOORHEESVILLE 12, COBLESKILL7 VOORHEESVILLE>> Led by ConnorHennessy, RyanDaly and PJ Parker’s three RBIs a piece, Voorheesville took the 12-7 victory. Jacob Rychcik was the winning picther and Voorheesville moves to 2-0 overall.
Cobleskill got Anrbi from Brycen Franek and two RBIs from River Sisson.
