Honoring the fallen
Memorial to officers killed in line of duty gets facelift
A memorial outside the Troy Police Department’s central station honoring the eight city officers killed in the line of duty received a facelift on Earth Day thanks to several current officers, a trio of businesses and volunteers from the city’s Department of Public Utilities. DPU workers cleared out dirt and concrete that surrounded the memorial Saturday, then, with help from several off-duty officers, moved the stone off its base while new concrete was poured and a custom-designed badge was added, along with two lights that will illuminate the memorial. Material for the work was provided by Fane Sand & Gravel of Mechanicville, A.H. Harris Construction Supplies of Albany and Mackey Electric of Cohoes.
