Students take tour of newly constructed housing near HVCC
TROY, N.Y.>> Students gathered Wednesday afternoon for a sneak peak of the College Suites at Hudson Valley, a newly constructed student housing community located near Hudson Valley Community College.
Located at 100 Morrison Ave., at the corner of Vandenburg Avenue in Troy, the near-complete College Suites at Hudson Valley is expected to soon house 268 students in 72 apartment suites.
Guests were welcomed this week to join the first official hard hat tours of the 147,610-squarefoot, four-story building. Attendees were some of the first people to explore the newapartments and facilities, which are still undergoing construction.
Prospective future tenants got the first glimpse inside the building, including a model apartment.
“They’re really nice. They’re new and modern,” said tour attendee Sierra Williams of Catskill, “and they’re spacious.” Williams, who will graduate from high school this June, said she can see herself living at the College Suites at HudsonValley, and thet she’s definitely going to apply. Williams plans to begin her college career this fall at Hudson Valley Community College, where she hopes to enroll in the nursing program. On Wednesday, she attended with some potential roommates, who also liked what they saw on the tour.
Wednesday’s event drew a total of nearly 100 students to check out the College Suites.
“It seems to be going well today,” said Michael DiGiacomo, regional manager at United Plus Property Management, between giving tours. “I think everybody’s impressed. They’re getting an idea of the College Suites brand and what we’re about.”
DiGiacomo explained that the College Suites at HudsonValleywas created to fill a need for both the campus and community by offering an educational and recreational atmosphere for students.
“Moving into the College Suites at Hudson Valley is the perfect opportunity for students to enjoy their college experience in the luxury of a fully furnished suite, located just minutes fromcampus,” DiGiacomo said in a press release. “These colleges in the Capital Region provide a top-tier education, and their students deserve a top-tier place to live and study; that’s what we’re offering at College Suites.”
DiGiacomo added that creating the College Suites has been a very exciting and fulfilling experience, thanks to tremendous support from Hudson Valley Community College, Rensselaer County and the City of Troy. “We’re looking forward to opening our doors to students for the Fall 2017 semester,” he said.
United Plus Property Management, of the Troy-based TheUnited Group of Companies, Inc., also runs the College Suites at City Station in downtown Troy, as well as several other College Suites, all part of the company’s Live. Learn. Relax. Program.
Like the others, this new community aims to provide students an attractive, convenient and comfortable living experience, featuring a fitness center, community lounge, laundry facility, bike storage, 24hour study areas, media room and cafe, along with on-site management offices and parking.
The College Suites are currently signing licenses for the 2017 fall semester. United Plus Property Management hopes to have construction on the property finished by August.
Four- and two-bedroom apartments are available. Each apartment will be fully furnished and will include a living room, dining area and kitchen with full appliances.
Rental rates range from about $775 to $900 per month, per student. Rent includes utility expenses like electricity, gas, water, sewer, trash, cable and internet. Somestudents may be eligible for financial aid to help pay for their apartments.
