TROY, N.Y. >> City firefighters pulled a man from a burning Hutton Street apartment house early Thursday.

Assistant Fire Chief Eric McMahon said city police reported the fire at 101 Hutton St. around 2:30 a. m.

“They radioed the dis- patcher, stating that there was a smoke condition and that they were evacuating people,” said McMahon. “Our fire companies arrived very shortly after and found a fire condition in the rear of 101 Hutton, in the second f loor rear.”

One resident was initially reported as missing, but firefighters found the man as they entered the 2 ½ - story, hillside house.

“When t he rescue squad crew dragged the hose line up there, on their way to the fire, they located a resident who was reported missing, removed him from the structure, then they went back up and extinguished the fire,” explained McMahon.

McMahon said the man refused medical treatment, and no other injuries were reported.

The families living in the building are currently homeless until city code enforcement officers can inspect the home and determine the extent of damage.

The buildings do not appear to be a total loss, McMahon said, but he quickly added that determination is up to code enforcement officials.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, McMahon said.
